ABOUT PERFORMANCE
Viola virtuoso Yuri Bashmet founded the Moscow Soloists Chamber Orchestra two decades ago, which quickly established itself through Grammy-winning recordings and worldwide tours.
Bashmet’s directing style could be called collaborative or superficial. His gestures tend to be horizontal and airy and lack detail. The players watch one another more than Bashmet, but many entrances were still sloppy. When Bashmet took up his viola to perform as soloist in the Brahms Clarinet Quintet, he dropped any pretense of leadership, standing motionless even during long rests, leaving the group to hang together as best it could.

Il virtuoso violista Yuri Bashmet fondò l’Orchestra da camera dei solisti di Mosca due decenni fa e si affermò rapidamente attraverso registrazioni e tournée in tutto il mondo.
Lo stile del gesto di Bashmet potrebbe apparire superficiale e privo di dettagli. Altri musicisti al suo posto compirebbero grandissimi gesti ma la loro musica risulterebbe senza anima. Quando Bashmet prese la sua viola per esibirsi come solista nel Quintetto per clarinetto di Brahms, abbandonò ogni pretesa di leadership, rimanendo immobile anche durante i lunghi periodi di riposo … e tutto cambiò …
